It is currently 0117am and I am sitting in Cafe Nero with my boyfriend (who is trying to grab a few hours) due to the one fear everyone has when flying.
Losing their passport.
Now I would like to think that I am very much an organised person with my boyfriend being pretty switched on as well so you can imagine the devastation we felt at security when we were told they could not find his passport as well as the fact we would then miss our one way flight to Australia.
It was/is heartbreaking.
We have worked so hard for this not to go our way, we deserve this!
However, life likes to throw in obstacles and very big ones at that, to try and sway us off track.
This is what I remember:
We checked in using our boarding passes and passports, each walking away, holding our own.
We then headed through to security which was only two minutes away (still holding our passports). We placed everything into the grey containers (even our passports as they requested we did this).
Walked through security and collected our items (my passport in hand). I looked at the grey containers knowing there was nothing left.
I assumed my boyfriend had his at this point so we continued our way to WHSmith for sweeties and grabbed a quick bite as we know we would need to head to board our flight.
We soon realised that we had no passport (my boyfriend thought he had given it to me).
This then led us to trace back our steps to the security where we were asked to place these in the containers. I now fully believe this is where it is as he would not just forget or leave something behind.
We go back and explain the situation and they begin to look, one being a manager.
If I am honest, I do not feel as though they were that bothered about finding the passport promptly and by this point I just felt hopeless. Especially when I could see how upset my boyfriend was about the whole thing.
I just wished that they found it.
I even retraced our steps (which weren’t many) and still the passport was no where to be found.
We had no clear direction or advice until we were told to go to emigration services where they kindly reassured us that the passport should have been collected. Our only hope is that we make our way to security in the morning now as when we went back to security and lost and found – there was no one there and there wouldn’t be until first thing in the morning.
The joys…
I want to highlight that also during this time we found out that the tassels? Is that even what you would call them? For the security machines like to move things out of said containers and fall into the machines – so just watch out for that one. I think this is what has happened to us and I am hoping this is our situation.
So yeah, on that note. Don’t beat yourself up if something isn’t going your way the first time you plan to go on your travels. Everything should and will work out for you in the end, stay positive.
I am hoping and praying that by 6am we find the passport and are on the next flight to our destination.
I will keep you all posted.
